11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Berkeley Finnish Hall
1970 Chestnut St., Berkeley
San Lázaro, associated with both Lazarus of Bethany in Christianity and Babalú-Ayé in Afro-Cuban Santería, is a significant figure in eastern Cuba’s cultural and religious practices.
Celebrating San Lázaro helps preserve Afro-Cuban traditions, blending Catholic and Yoruba beliefs while fostering community unity through communal rituals and gatherings. The saint is seen as a protector and healer, with his feast day being a time to seek blessings, particularly for the sick and poor.
Presented by Herencia Guantanamera.
